TRADITIONAL HIMACHALI WEDDING

Last to last week was a blast of fun and enjoyment . You must be thinking why I am so excited elaborating it ,Why not ! it was the wedding of my friend . 

Wedding took place in a very beautiful location in Palampur and it was a traditional Himachali wedding. For me weddings are all about dressing up , dancing, enjoying and having lots of fun .

Let's have a look into the wedding functions and sharing some of the rituals of Hindu weddings and its importance and what I wore on my friends special day .

BACHELORETTE PARTY

It is a party held before marriage for the to be bride .It is a western trend that is now a days very popular among youngsters . It's all about happiness ,enjoyment , having dinner together and lots and lots of dance .

This is the picture from the decor of bachelorette party we had three days before her  wedding. It was a lot of fun playing games ,dancing etc.

MEHANDI CEREMONY 

Mehandi  (heena tattoo) is designed on brides skin mainly on hands and foot .It is a ritual for the bride as well as for the groom but mainly the bride and all the females in the ceremory tattoo their hands which signifies positivity.It is also believed if darker is the colour of henna left on the skin  , deeper is the love between bride and groom .It takes place a day or a night before the wedding day.

This is me all dressed up for the mehandi ceremony . I am wearing a traditional outfit called as Sharara . This dress has a kurti and a wide flared lower called as sharara and a dupatta .I paired it with the matching earrings and mustard footwear going good with the whole outfit.

HALDI CEREMONY 

Haldi is a commonly used word for turmeric in India. Haldi is very important ingredient in India and in indian weddings .It has its traditional importance also . A thick paste of haldi is made and then applied on the body of bride and groom by their relatives because it is believed that haldi has skin glowing properties and it removes  dull skin and gives you that radiant glow.

This is dress I chose to wear on haldi ceremony of my friend . It is a traditional indo- western dress. I matched an ethinic skirt with a shirt and paired it with the matching earrings and punjabi jutti.

THE WEDDING DAY 

  

It's a special day which comes in almost everyone's life sooner or later . In our traditional weddings , Hawan pooja is there during the wedding .One of the ritual is  Tel sandh in which all the relatives  put oil with the help of durva grass ( pious grass used in worshiping and and used during havan pooja) on to bride's hair .It is called as Tel sandh. There are so many more rituals performed in the wedding.

For the final day , I decided to wear a pink organza saree with the minimalistic crystal jwellery and a pair of heels.

Talking about Himachali wedding and not even discussing about Himachali Dham .How can it be possible ?  Traditional Himachali weddings include Himachali Dham (Food served to people during weddings and other functions ).

This is the picture of Kangri Dham which includes rice , different types of daal, Madara ,khatta , Matar paneer ,meetha and many more items served together .

Kangri dham is so famous in Kangra district  as well as in Himachal so if you are coming to Kangra don't ever miss the chance to taste our special mouth watering kangri dham .It's so yummy and delicious.
